Cambridge Goju Ryu was founded in February 2010, initially running one class per week in a boxing club on Newmarket Road. In April 2012 the club moved to a larger dojo at the CASS centre, Cambridge University Press. Cambridge Goju Ryu is run by Martin and Louise Stockley, teaching adults of all ages and abilities at two evening classes every week. In 2016 the club further expanded to incorporate a Saturday morning class for children, run by Fabio Giovannoni.
Goju Ryu is a traditional style of karate that incorporates close quarters self defence partner drills alongside cardio work outs, stretching and strength conditioning. The purpose of the club is to share this martial art with the people of Cambridge and the surrounding areas. The classes provide a chance for you to improve your general fitness and stamina while learning a traditional martial art. As a traditional martial art our focus is on the kata, a sequence of moves as if fighting an imaginary opponent. Importantly, we practice a wide range of self defence techniques which are described within the kata. Our training drills are aimed at improving your technique, strength, speed and stamina. Through regular training we will help you to improve your fitness levels and push you to new limits. |
